In brief

  1. Financial assistance from the canton of Zug will remain unchanged in 2027.
  2. A 10 kW geothermal heat pump qualifies for a grant of CHF 24,000, one of the highest amounts in Switzerland.
  3. Almost all municipalities in Zug offer their own financial support.

Good news for homeowners in Zug: on 5 November 2026, the canton of Zug confirmed to us that the terms and amounts of its energy incentive scheme will remain the same in 2027. Zug is the first canton to have confirmed its 2027 funding levels to us. In most other cantons, these will not be known until December or January.

How much can you receive?

Here are the canton’s main grants, valid in 2026 and 2027:

A practical example

A family in Baar is replacing their oil-fired boiler with a 10 kW geothermal heat pump and is first drawing up a GEAK Plus to plan the work:

  • ground-source heat pump: 20,000 + 10 × 400 = 24,000 CHF;
  • GEAK Plus: CHF 1,500;
  • total cantonal grant: 25,500 CHF, not including the municipality grant and tax deductions.

Don’t forget the grant from your municipality

Almost all municipalities in the canton of Zug have their own support scheme, in addition to the cantonal one. To find out what support your municipality offers, enter your postcode on the energiefranken.ch website, which lists schemes across the whole of Switzerland.

Tip

Cantonal grants are paid out as long as the annual budget has not been exhausted. If you have a project planned for 2027, submit your application early in the year, and always before work begins.

How do I apply?

  1. Get quotes from tradespeople in your area.
  2. Submit your application via the canton’s official website before starting the work.
  3. Wait for confirmation from the canton, then start the work.
  4. Send the invoices once the work is complete to receive the grant.

All amounts, calculators and official links can be found on our Zug Canton Grants page.

Our recommendations

  • If your oil or gas heating system is over 15 years old, start planning its replacement now: the subsidy amounts for 2027 have been announced and will not change.
  • Start by carrying out a GEAK Plus assessment: it is subsidised (CHF 1,500) and provides you with a costed renovation plan.
  • Check what financial support your municipality offers before signing any quotes; this is in addition to the cantonal grant.
